In October, 1995, Gerry played in a concert at the Nazionale Theater in Milano to benefit the Sera Je Monastery in India.
Following Gerry’s performance, he was offered a Kata Scarf by the Venerable Thamthog Rinpoche, the longtime friend of Gerry and Franca Mulligan. The Venerable Thamthog Rinpoche is Abbot of the Namgyal Tantric Monastery of His Holiness The Dalai Lama, in Dharamsala, India, Master of the Sera Je, Drepung and Gaden Monasteries in India, and Director of the Center of Tibetan Studies in Milan.
Venerable Thamthog Rinpoche made the following statement on the music of Gerry Mulligan:
“Music is important to our lives, and can have a positive or negative effect, depending on our motivation, and the action of our mind. Gerry wrote beautiful music, very pure, which is a lasting and precious gift to the people of the world.”
